On November 24, 2003 the FCC passed new rules allowing consumers to keep their cellular telephone numbers if they change providers. Also included in this rule was the option to have wired telephone numbers moved to cellular phones.
While this is great for the consumer, it does pose a risk of Local Phone Number Portability loss of communication with the central station for monitored accounts. If you have a monitored security system and have your wired land line converted to a cellular phone, or have the wired line removed all together, you will no longer be able to send alarm signals and other vital information to our Central Station.
Fortunately there are cellular backup options available if you choose to not have a wired telephone line attached to your system.
